Enligt International Herald Tribune utesluter Tysklands utrikesminister krav på någon som helst form av sanktioner mot Ryssland. Det här bådar illa för EU-mötet om Ryssland. Det blir kanske ingenting, eller ännu mer dråpligt, varför inte kopiera det uttalande som Kina gjorde tillsammans med Ryssland och några till? Jag kan inte hitta det just nu men det säger något i stil med "Ser allvarligt på situationen" eller något åt det hållet.

But Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the Social Democrat foreign minister - long a proponent of engaging with Moscow who was nonetheless outspoken against Russian actions in Georgia - has rejected any punitive measures, whether they be sanctions or exclusion from the G-8. "We need a strong and sensible European role to allow a return to reason and responsibility," Steinmeier told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung newspaper.
