Mephisto, Istvan Szabo, Hungarian/German

Men (Männer), Doris Dörrie, German
This is hilarious. A husband and a wife live very posh lives in a large German city. She gets bored with the husband's shallow, high-income life style, leaves him and starts dating an "alternative culture" guy, a painter, who lives in the boheme district. Her (ex) husband however extracts his revenge. Unbeknownst to his (ex) wife he befriends the painter, who doesn't know that it is the ex husband he is getting friends with. They get really chummy and he teaches the painter about marketing and finance. The painter gets really rich, and the woman dumps him :-)
Menace II Society, Hughes Brothers, USA
I normally don't like violent movies, but this movie feels honest. I personally think it stands head and shoulders over other movies in the same genre. If it depicts LA life with authenticity I obviously don't know. But I find this movie universal.
Trainspotting, British
http://imdb.com/title/tt0117951/
Nikita (la femme Nikita), French
Action movie that I actually like.
