Google tänker nu släppa en linuxdistribution som heter Google Chrome OS. Den ska vara ett biffigare laptopalternativ till Googles linuxbaserade Android, som framför allt riktar sig mot mobiltelefoner. Men i Googles officiella blogg så blir det lite styltigt när det står så här:

OS:et presenteras alltså som ett OS som är Open Source som senare ska släppas som Open Source?? Kontentan är väl att eftersom systemet bygger på GPL-komponenter så blir det släppt fritt enligt licensen när de börjar distribuera systemet, men att de av någon anledning inte vill dela med sig av det i halvfärdigt skick, kanske för att inte riskera dålig PR.

The technique works by rejuvenating a thin membrane behind the retina, called Bruch's membrane. Over time this membrane becomes so "clogged" with the by-product of cell renewal that vital nutrients can no longer cross from the bloodstream into the retina and excess material becomes trapped, unable to pass in the other direction. This leads to the death of retinal cells and, in time, to AMD and eventual blindness.

Iran har fängslat ett antal iranska ambassadarbetare från brittiska ambassaden. Det är ganska uppenbart att detta görs för att få till en konflikt mellan Iran och i första hand Storbritannien. På så sätt hoppas regimen att Iran kan enas mot den gamla kolonialmakten. Nu ser det dock ut att en bli en konflikt mellan EU och Iran, vilket nog också passar regimen bra. Regimen vill dock nog helst hålla USA utanför, pga att de ju har visat på villighet att slå till kraftigt militärt i området.

Min gissning är att Iran kommer att stegra så långt som möjligt, till de når en punkt där iranierna sluter upp runt regimen. Det kan behövas en rejäl upptrappning för att det ska ske. Frågan är hur de tänker göra detta? EU kommer inte att slå till militärt, så kanske regimen måste gå på USA också trots risken för ett massivt slag? Ett terrordåd utomlands kan också tyvärr fungera för regimen. Ett sådant som av väst kopplas otvetydigt till Iran, men där man inne i landet kan hävda att detta är en sammansvärjning. Odemokratiska länder med styrd press är i sanning en samhällsfara.

Det verkar som om Irans regim kan styra väldigt mycket av vad som kommer ut eftersom i stort all trafik ur landet passerar en punkt som de kan styra och filtrera. Lärdomen av detta är att ha redundanta nät med stor geografisk spriding, och att man måste vara vaksamma när någon försöker centralisera.

I Sydsvenskan idag beskrivs en plats på jorden, Amundsen-Scott-stationen, som enligt artikeln ska ha en medeltemperatur på minus sextio grader. Det är osannolikt i alla fall om platsen är utomhus. Medeltemperaturen på Amundsen-Scott-stationen är ungefär -48 grader Celsius. Since the 1940s, more than 150 academic papers on Benford's law have been published by mathematicians, statisticians, engineers, physicists and—recently—by accountants. None disputes it or offers a competing law related to digits. Perhaps Roger Pinkham wrote the most convincing support in 1961, when he showed that Benford's law was scale invariant. Trying to figure out where the "It's always c" (as displayed on e.g. Fark.com) meme started. I did a Google search for the term. However the results where disappointing. As of now the top result uses the phrase as c  in chocolate. Then comes a song text with chord progressions where the text "It's always" is simply followed by the chord C. Then finally C as in "C:\", the most common hard disk name in MS-DOS and the Wndows shell.

The correct answer is of course that c stands for option c in a multiple choice question.

Which leads up to this question:

It's not in the startup folder, it's not something that is left open when closing windows, and it's always C:\Program

Jag var inne på forumen på pprune.org och tittade. Och en del spekulationer pekar just nu mot en in-flight breakup. Idén är att planet får felaktig hastighetsinformation, och tror att det håller på att falla ur skyn av för låg hastighet. Planet ökar då hastigheten till en punkt där planet inte klarar av den häftiga aerodynamik som uppstår kring ljudvallen, och planet går i bitar. Anledningen till hastighetsförvirringen kan t ex vara blockerade pitot rör. Pitot rör är rör med den öppna änden framåt, som mäter hur stark fartvinden är.

Redundans kan göras på flera sätt vilket ger olika effekter.

Jag har också undrat varför man inte kunnat dra så många slutsatser av de sensorraporter som planet skickat. Nu påstås i nedanstående citat att en del sensor- och konfliktapporter inte skickas direkt "när det händer" utan verifieras under en tid innan de skickas. Om den tiden ör olika för olika typer av signaler så kan tidsstämplarna vara annnorlunda än händelseordningen. Men det måste de väl kunna klura ut, eller?

I scratched my head recently when upgrading and moving a legacy PHP system, when two identical files behaved quite differently, eventhough diff and ls -l reported no differences whatsoever. But one had different SELinux attributes on it that you can't see with ls -l. It got them because it had been unpacked in a user's home directory (which easily happens when you do an scp and unpack before move), and this made SELinux tag it in a special way. Svenska Dagbladet redovisar en teori om att Rio-Paris-flighten kan ha flugit för sakta för att minska effekten av turbulens. Jag kollade för några veckor sedan runt på nätet om turbulens, och att sänka hastigheten är ett sätt att mildra luftgroparna för passagerarna. Jag antar att detta beror på att man kan se turbulens som att flyga igenom luft där luften varierar i lufttryck och i vertikal hastighet. Ju snabbare man flyger igenom ett sådant område, desto snabbare far man igenom förändringen (gradienten), och desto kraftigare blir luftgroparna, eftersom de trycks ihop i tiden. Om man flyger tillräckligt långsamt skulle det ju bara bli som att åka hiss.

Ett annat sätt att minska effekt av turbulens är att flyga i ett plan med hög wing loading, viket i princip betyder små vingar i förhållande till planets vikt. Ju mindre vingar, desto mer blir planet som en sten som håller sig uppe på motorkraft. Och en sten är ju inte så känsig för turbulens. Jag har upplevt några väldigt mjuka flygningar på SAS gamla McDonnell Douglas MD-80 (en flygplanstyp som är en förlängd DC-3:a, jag menar DC9:a :) .

In SAS,we've got both 737 NG's and the MD-series.There is no doubt about it, the MD's are a lot more stable than the NG's in turbulence.The 736,especially,wallows all over the sky in turbulence.The main reason is that it's yaw damper does not have the rapid rate of damping as the MD one has,and this combined with the wingspan being longer than the fuselage lenghth makes for a very uncomfortable ride.The -700 is marginally better,while the -800 is quite good due to the longer distance from the CG to the fin and rudder.This imparts a stronger authority to the rudder/yaw damper.

På diskussionforumen på Internet är det däremot delade meningar om storleken på planet spelar roll för luftgropar, många menar att det inte gör det. För båtar spelar det ju roll, men de tillryggalägger ju mycket mindre sträcka per sekund i förhållande till sin längd än vad ett jetplan gör.
