The country's warlords will be demonstrating in favor of a bill guaranteeing amnesty for the mujahidin who fought against Soviet occupation.

No one knows what kind of change will come — a military coup, a people's uprising, a civil war or some grim combination.
Studies evaluating cognitive restructuring-inspired programs in Canada reported some fairly impressive results a few years back; recidivism appeared to have decreased as a result of the intervention. In rats and mice, a structure called the rostral extension connects the lateral ventricles and the olfactory bulb. This tube-like structure, which is filled with cerebrospinal fluid, provides a pathway for neurons generated in the subventricular zone (a proliferative tissue lining the cerebral ventricles) to migrate to the olfactory bulb, which contains neurons that bind to odorant receptors and produce nervous impulses related to smell. The rostral migratory stream is the equivalent of the rostral extension in rodents, and was not known to exist in humans before this study.
A re-examination of one series of wells running from Taji, just north of Baghdad, to an area southeast of the capital nearly doubled the estimate of recoverable reserves after raising the estimated total to around 15 billion barrels, Bayati said. Personally, what I'm noticing is that every time I read somebody who has taken a consistent point of view on gene patents, like Crichton's op-ed, they usually selectively leave out details. For instance, how much does it cost to develop a gene test? Why are the volunteer efforts to build up samples of affected populations so valuable? How will the relative values of these efforts change with changes in gene assay technology? How much government (e.g., NIH) investment has contributed to research versus private (e.g. Gates Foundation) funding? Are the patents owned by pharmaceutical corporations (rarely) or universities (commonly)?
Also, I admit that my list is biased in favour of my own personal specialties and interests, but I have made a conscious effort to be as cross-disciplinary as possible. There are terms from computer science, cosmology, neuroscience, environmentalism, sociology, biotechnology, philosophy, astrobiology, political science, and many other fields.
Thus, these three principles seem to be broadly accepted in our society: that economic opportunity should be as widely distributed and as equal as possible; that economic outcomes need not be equal but should be linked to the contributions each person makes to the economy; and that people should receive some insurance against the most adverse economic outcomes, especially those arising from events largely outside the person's control.

Compulsive gambling with extreme losses -- in two cases, greater than $100,000 -- by people without a prior history of gambling problems has been linked to a class of drugs commonly used to treat the neurological disorder restless legs syndrome (RLS). A new Mayo Clinic study is the first to describe this compulsive gambling in RLS patients who are being treated with medications that stimulate dopamine receptors in the brain.
The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that Jobs approved a March 2001 employment contract with "Toy Story" director John Lasseter that granted Lasseter Pixar stock options priced in December 2000, three months before the contract was signed and when the stock price was at its lowest level of the year. Although the Journal reports it is not clear whether Jobs picked the December stock options pricing date, his signature, on behalf of Pixar, is on Lasseter's contract.
